The history of the bikini begins far before the official introduction of the bikini swimsuit in the summer of 1946. Some historians believe that the bikini may have been one of the first public swimming costumes in existence. Drawing evidence from 300 A.D. Roman mosaics, historians point to the bikini as the swimsuit of choice for ancient Roman women. The history of the bikini, however, may begin nearly 2000 years sooner than even ancient Rome! Minoan wall paintings from approximately 1600 B.C. also depict women wearing the seemingly quite popular two-piece bathing costume. The official history of the bikini, under that name, begins in the summer of 1946, just one year after the tumultuous end of World War II. During that summer, as France was seeking to recover from the dreadful effects of the war, two French designers almost simultaneously created and marketed the bikini swimsuit. Barely leading the charge, Jacques Heim, a fashion designer and beach shop owner in the French resort town of Cannes, introduced his swimsuit creation, the “Atome,” early in the summer of 1946. The swimsuit was named the Atome because of its miniscule size (as compared to the then smallest known particle of matter, the atom). Heim intended to sell his swimsuit in his beach shop. To drum up business and increase awareness of the new swimsuit, Heim sent skywriters high above the Cannes sky, proclaiming the new Atome to be “the world’s smallest bathing suit.” Sadly for Jacques Heim, another French fashion designer was also hard at work creating a remarkably similar swimsuit in the summer of 1946. Just three weeks after Heim began marketing his swimsuit, Louis Reard, a mechanical engineer who had decided to dabble in swimsuit design, sent out skywriters over the French Riviera. The message these skywriters carried was simple but powerful marketing: “Bikini—smaller than the smallest bathing suit in the world.” Perhaps due to Reard’s obvious marketing skills or a simple turn of fate, the name bikini became the official tag for the two-piece swimsuit. The bikini made its first proper introduction to the world of fashion design on July 5, 1946, as it is was worn and displayed at a Paris fashion show by French model Micheline Bernardini. Reaction to the bikini was immediate and explosive. As one American correspondent put it (in typical Texan style), “All of a sudden, a blond named Micheline Bernardini ambles out in what any dern (sic) fool could see was the smallest bathing in the world, including West Texas. Why folks, that suit was so small that…” Any number of phrases could complete this statement and would adequately describe the male reaction to the bikini. Needless to say, most of those who viewed the new swimsuit were equally shocked and titillated by its minimalist style. The bikini began to be marketed and sold in the United States just one year after its introduction in France. Reaction to the swimsuit was great, but sales were initially quite slow. Men and women alike assumed that the suit was simply too bare and scandalous for conservative American women to don in public. American women did indeed approach the swimsuit quite cautiously until the revolutionary decade of the 1960s, in which bikini sales soared tremendously. The bikini has now become such an entrenched part of swimsuit design that it is a wonder the modern swimsuit is only 60 years old. True to its explosive nature, the bikini has inspired even more shocking innovations in swimsuit design, including the short-lived monokini and the immensely popular thong bikini. It would be interesting to learn if Louis Reard has the foresight to know of the far-reaching implications of the scanty two pieces of cloth that comprised the original bikini.

How To 'Brazilian Wax' (Or, What to Expect When You Sign Up to Get One)

Brazilian bikini waxes have been 'all the rage' since the late 90's, but they're certainly not new the US. Brazilian waxing was introduced to New York in 1987 by seven Brazilian-born sisters. So how does it differ from a regular bikini wax? Basically, with the Brazilian, hair is removed in the front, back & everything in between. Most of the time a 'landing strip' is left in the front, but some clients opt for everything removed.

Time Required: 15-30 minutes
Here's How:
Most waxings occur in a private room with a door. I have heard of some with just a curtain between you and others. You remove your pants & underwear & lie on a table with clean paper or sheets. It is possible that you could be provided with a paper thong, but chances are... you won't.
Because you only need about a quarter-inch of hair for the wax to grab onto, your waxer will start by trimming your pubic hair to the right length.
The best waxers are fast, which means less discomfort for you. The waxer will dip a waxing stick into a pot of hot wax & then spread it onto your skin & hair. She will then apply a cloth strip over the still-warm wax, pressing firmly so the cloth, hair and wax adhere to one another. When the wax has cooled, she will pull the strip off, in the opposite direction of your hair growth, pulling the hairs out by the root.
Most likely, your waxer will tweeze any stray hairs.
Waxing usually starts in the front & moves toward the back. You'll likely have to move around in all sorts of odd positions in order for the waxer to do her job.
Once the waxing is over, the waxer will spread soothing lotion over the waxed areas. You should ask what to do in case of bumps, redness or ingrown hairs. Your waxer should be trained in this.
Don't forget to get the name of the waxer so when you make another appointment you can get the same person so you don't have to bare all for another complete stranger (wink).
Tips:
The procedure, like any waxing, can be very painful at first, but frequent visits usually cuts down on the pain factor. I suggest taking a couple Advil at least 15 minutes before your procedure. As for the embarrassment factor -- we like to think getting a Brazilian can't be any more embarrassing than a typical visit to your gynecologist's office. These aestheticians have seen it all before.
The downside of a Brazilian wax... while it lasts as much as 3 weeks, the hair will grow back & you'll have to do it again.
Another downside... hair has to be a certain length before it can sucessfully waxed.
Another down side... you might experience red bumps or ingrown hairs।

It seems that most of the bikini styles, with an exception of the thong, are categorized by the style of the top। The bandini, the tankini, the halter bikini, and the monokini are all distinguished by the cut and fit of the top (or lack thereof) with little attention to the bottom style. There are, however, several different styles of bikini bottoms that have important implications for bikini fit and flattery. In many cases, the fit and style of the bottoms may be more important in a flattering swimsuit than the fit and style of the top.

The history of bikini bottoms is a history of the lowering of the midriff and the heightened cut of the legs। Throughout the history of the bikini, bikini bottoms have become shorter and smaller until they have consisted of only two small triangles of cloth connected by thin strings (or one small triangle of cloth in the case of the thong bikini). In the beginning of the bikini’s history, bottoms tended to rise to the navel and cover a large section of the upper thighs. Today, bikini bottoms ride significantly lower and display a considerable portion of the upper thighs.

The large variety of bikini bottoms allows an improved amount of choice for women when shopping for bottoms. In addition, the increasing tendency of stores to sell bikini separates allows for tailored top and bottom selection. In general, string bikini bottoms look best on women with long legs and thin torsos. Boy shorts are naturally best for women with boy shapes. Bottoms with high cut legs are attractive and flattering for nearly all women, as they tend to lengthen the leg and minimize the hips and thighs. Brief-style bottoms can be flattering for many women, as well, depending upon the amount of coverage they offer. Tiny Micro BikiniBy Matt GarrettFirst up, we’ll run through a short history of the bikini (no sniggering at the back, please) and see how we arrive at the micro bikini.The two-piece swimsuit we know today as the bikini has only been marketed and sold as such for 60 years. But archaeologists have discovered Minoan wall paintings from 1600 B.C. and Roman mosaics from 300 A.D. that show the bikini, so the ancients were livin’ it up! Still, it is the debut of the modern bikini in 1946 and its later modifications that truly define the swimsuit. The bikini was invented and launched by two French designers: Jacques Heim and Louis Reard. Heim was a swimsuit designer who had created a two-piece suit to be sold in his beach shop in Cannes. He marketed the swimsuit as the “atome,” (named for its small size and meant to be compared with the atom, the smallest particle of matter known). No doubt, it was an outrageously tiny swimsuit. The same year, Reard was creating his own similar, two-piece swimsuit. He named and marketed his swimsuit as the bikini, claiming that it was “smaller than the smallest bathing suit in the world”. Reard christened his swimsuit the bikini in honor of experimental atomic bombs being detonated in the South Pacific, near the Bikini Reef. So Reard’s name stuck, though by today’s standards, the bikinis of the 1940s and ’50s were positively modest in their coverage. Bottoms were cut above the navel, and tops fully covered the breasts. Getting smaller by the yearThe bikini went through several changes as time passed. Designers experimented with many varieties for the swimsuit, including a bikini top with attached propellers (!), a suit made entirely of red hair, and even a version made of porcupine quills. As early as the 1950s, the bikini was already so small that it could be packed into a matchbook, but even more drastic shrinkage lay in store. In the 1970s, the sexual revolution in the United States caused designers to make the bikini even more revealing. So we had string bikinis, which exposed the navel by fitting the bottoms on the hips. The top, too, provided only bra-style coverage. In the 1980s, the popular thong bikini arrived on the scene. Designers claimed the thong bikini originated from the clothing of Amazonian tribal groups in Brazil. As we know, the thong bikini leaves the bottom virtually uncovered and the back of the suit disappears into the buttocks. Micro bikinisIn the 1990s and 2000s, designers have continued to revamp the bikini and innovated new styles. While the thong and string bikinis retain their popularity, the micro bikini has recently been added to the growing selection. Essentially, micro bikinis are bikinis combining a micro bikini top and a thong bikini bottom. Needless to add, it is scantier and more revealing than traditional bikinis and hence its name. Buying micro bikinis· A word of warning: you need to be careful that you don’t opt for a string bikini when you mean to buy a micro bikini. You can burn as many calories running for 30 minutes as what you would burn in 60 minutes walking. Don't forget, running will generate a calorie burn long after the exercise has ceased, as opposed to calorie consumption stopping soon after the walking stops. Don't forget to slip slop slap.
Having sex can burn well over 100 calories per hour if the intensity is right! So what are you waiting for? I don't think you need any more incentive to pick up the intensity!
Avoid eating within 90 minutes prior to exercising, as blood would be distributed away from your working muscles and down to your stomach, this will reduce your aerobic performance.
Remember consistency is the key. Don't go for the quick fix or fad diet. Aim to include exercise into YOUR lifestyle on a regular basis for long term results.
Food
Don't skip meals - this can slow your metabolism and the end result is weight gain.
Make sure you always have snacks handy because if you are hungry and you go to buy a snack you will often chose the wrong foods. Always aim to eat protein with each meal. Protein burns slowly so it helps to satiate therefore helping you to eat less. If you are vegetarian try legumes (chickpeas, lentil, kidney beans) nuts and seeds, tofu, or brown rice.
Have no more than 1 tsp of salt in your diet per day. Great salt alternatives are sea, vegetable and Celtic salt, Tamari soy sauce and try Miso paste as a stock or gravy alternative.
Have a glass of warm water with lemon in it first thing in the morning. This will help to stimulate the kidney and increase thirst through out the day. Also the lemon is very good in stimulating digestive enzymes.
The average person overeats by around 30 per cent. Some good tips for eating less are; always leave a little food on your plate, aim to take 20 minutes to eat you meal and wait 30 minutes before eating after a meal.
When reading labels always read for the per 100g. Sugar should be no more than 10g per 100g, saturated fat should be no more than 7g per 100g and sodium (salt) should be between 250mg and 300mg per 100g or less.
If you do not like the taste of water try squeezing half an orange, lemon or lime and add some fresh ginger or mint. It will make a zesty and fresh alternative. My favourite recipe is sliced watermelon, strawberries and raspberries in icy chilled water.
Make sure you are eating a diet high in fibre, at least 40 grams per day. Psyllium husks, raw fruit and vegetable, grain, nuts and seeds are all excellent source of fibre.
Flexibility
Avoid upside down poses like the backbend whilst menstruating.
Complete all yoga practice with five minutes of rest. Lie on your back, spine straight, palms facing up. Try and keep your mind still, use this time to allow your body to absorb the benefits of the practice.
When your arms are extended over your head you don't want your ribs to flare out. It's important to keep them compact and closed.
There are many types of yoga available now, so try something different such as Ashtanga, Integral, Iengar or even laughing yoga.

Join a sports team or find a regular exercise class, you'll increase your chances of meeting people and have fun getting fit!
Be patient - the weight didn't go on overnight, so it wont come off overnight.
If you need motivation, enlist a friend or employ a personal trainer to exercise with you. Getting up in the morning is easier if you know someone is counting on you.

* Be honest with yourself about the swimsuit you are trying on. If the bikini does not fit, you definitely should not wear it. There are enough bikini styles out there that you will be able to find one that flatters your figure. The key is to keep looking.
* If the bikini you are trying on does not offer enough coverage, the solution is a different style, not a larger size. A larger size may only result in a saggy, too-loose bikini.
* Try online shopping. Not only will online shopping limit your encounters with tiny dressing rooms, bad mirrors, and harsh lights, it will also give you the opportunity to browse through hundreds of styles quickly and efficiently.
* For an overall slimming effect, always choose darker, matte colors over shiny pastels. Light, shiny colors have a tendency to show every flaw. Of course, black is always the most slimming color, but a navy blue or dark red will serve the same purpose.

* Before purchasing a bikini, make sure you check the rear. You will want to be sure the bikini offers your desired amount of coverage before you debut it on the beach.
* In general, you should always choose a bikini style with high-cut legs. A high cut will lengthen the legs and make the hips and thighs appear slimmer. This tip alone is guaranteed to shave 10 pounds off your appearance.

The string bikini is one of the first and most classic renovations of the traditional bikini. It generally consists of the barest minimal fabric coverage for the top and bottoms, with thin strings serving as straps and support. The string bikini is most often composed of four triangles of material--one piece each for the breasts, crotch, and butt. Jumping on board the sexual revolution of the 1960s (during which men and women began to seriously reconsider the public ban of nudity), the string bikini became a popular bikini style in the 1970s. While the major erogenous zones of the 1960s had been the breasts and the midriff, the string bikini indicated a shift in public attention toward the upper thighs. Also known as the Tanga, the string bikini was an import from the Brazilian beaches of Rio de Janeiro. It became so popular at its introduction to the United States in 1974 that Manhattan’s Bloomingdale’s sold out its entire order of 150 swimsuits in only two weeks. The classic style continues to be one of the most commonly purchased by American women, especially among women in their twenties. The string bikini is not ideal for every woman’s body. As Beverly Hills designer Jim Riva stated at the string bikini’s birth, “It’s something I’d hate to see on every woman in the world.” For some women, however, the string bikini may actually be the most flattering bikini style. The string bikini style looks best on women with small busts or boy shapes. Because women with small breasts do not need a large amount of bra-style support, a traditional triangle top can serve to add more shape and curve to the breasts.
